Jason Hughes, a proud native of New Orleans and graduate of the city's public school system, he is the definition of a servant leader. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with honors, from the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs at Southern University and A&M College.

Jason's passion for public service began early, leading him to serve in senior positions for Louisiana Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, and New Orleans Mayor Mitchell J. Landrieu. He also served as a senior advisor and cabinet member to two higher education system presidents, helping expand opportunities for students across Louisiana.

In 2019, Jason was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives. He quickly earned a reputation for principled leadership, hard work, and delivering for his constituents—securing resources for economic development, improving public safety, supporting survivors of violence, and strengthening public schools.

Beyond his official roles, Jason is a faithful member of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, a Life Member of the McDonogh #35 Senior High School Alumni Association and the Southern University Alumni Federation, and an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He serves on numerous boards and actively researches and publishes on urban education, global Black populations, HBCUs, and comparative international education.
