City Council Chamber

Initiated Formal Process Setting the Annual Mardi Gras Parade Calendar

The Council passed Motion M-11-91, authored by Councilmembers Clarkson and Fielkow, stating the Council's intent to adopt Ordinance Calendar Number 28,355, on March 3, 2011 to formally set the 2011 Mardi Gras Parade Season.

Council Vice-President Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson said, "It is with great pride and excitement that we set the 2011 Parade Schedule. Mardi Gras is the City's signature event - a cultural celebration of New Orleans - hosted by New Orleanians. We are also very proud of the economics of Mardi Gras. A recent Tulane University study offered a direct economic impact of $145 million and an indirect impact of $322 million.  New Orleans is ready for and expects bigger crowds and an even greater economic impact than in recent years, and today the City Council is declaring that our beloved Mardi Gras Krewes may officially roll through the streets of New Orleans.
