UPS Foundation and Entergy Corporation to Fund New Orleans East Tree Planting Initiative

100 Live Oak trees to be planted on Saturday, Nov. 9

NEW ORLEANS - The UPS Foundation has awarded a $5000 Keep America Beautiful/UPS Community Tree and Recovery Tree Planting Grant for a neutral ground planting of Live Oaks in New Orleans East. Along with funding from Entergy, the grant will be used to purchase 100 native Live Oak trees for the neutral ground of Bundy Road in the Little Woods neighborhood. The trees will be planted on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by volunteers from UPS, SOUL, Keep New Orleans Beautiful, the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale and neighborhood organizations.

Council Approves Initiatives to Limit Small Box Retail Proliferation in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS - Today, the City Council unanimously approved Zoning Docket 78/19 by District "E" Councilmember Cyndi Nguyen limiting Small Box Retail proliferation across the city. 

The Small Box Retail Diversity Study was commissioned in June 2018 to address discount stores in close proximity across the city that fail to offer fresh fruits and vegetables and negatively impact the plans of conventional grocery stores. The study identified 36 small box stores in New Orleans and 12 in District "E" with only three grocery stores in the district.

NEW ORLEANS - District "E" Councilmember Cyndi Nguyen will join GNO, Inc. for an international business exchange in the country of Colombia September 10-13, 2019, in its capital and largest city - Bogota. The "Connecting in Colombia" initiative is intended to foster a deeper understanding of the country's economy while exploring commerce opportunities for Louisiana stakeholders.
