SHARP to Launch Program Dressing Men for Success

NEW ORLEANS - On Thursday, February 21, SHARP New Orleans will present a Special Order of Business to the New Orleans City Council. SHARP is a nonprofit organization that offers professional attire and resources for men trying to overcome workforce barriers to employment. The presentation to the City Council occurs one day before their "Ready for Takeoff" gala being held at the NOPSI Hotel, Friday, February 22. The gala will launch the organization and bring awareness to their mission. The event will recognize the "Sharpest in New Orleans," men who look, think and stay SHARP as well as create opportunities for others in their communities.

Council President Releases Statement on Practices of District Attorney Cannizzaro
NEW ORLEANS - Today the City Council unanimously passed a resolution, sponsored by Council President Jason Williams, Council Vice President Helena Moreno and District "C" Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer, condemning District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro's barbaric practice of jailing victims of domestic and sexual violence on material witness warrants. Today's resolution furthered the efforts of a resolution sponsored by Councilmember Jason Williams in 2017. The vote was accompanied by a presentation from Court Watch NOLA who also supported the resolution in 2017. The Council committed to working collaboratively with the state legislature to address this issue and examine measures to better assist victims in navigating the prosecutorial process.

NEW ORLEANS - Today, City Council President Jason Williams held a press conference to discuss and celebrate the historic allocation of $1.5 million for early childhood education in the 2019 City Budget unanimously adopted by the Council. The budget allocation does not require additional taxpayer dollars. Instead, it allocates money in the General Fund to invest in young people from the very start.

Council President Jason Williams Hosts Hundreds of Local Seniors at Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon

NEW ORLEANS - On Tuesday, Nov. 13th Council President Jason Williams joined the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club to host the annual Thanksgiving luncheon for senior citizens. Volunteers served more than 342 Thanksgiving meals to local seniors during the event which took place at the Roy E. Glapion Reception Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
