NEW ORLEANS, LA — A joint committee of the New Orleans City Council today sounded the alarm about chronic customer service issues within the Sewerage and Water Board. Council offices have experienced a recent uptick in complaints regarding lack of communication from SWBNO representatives. During today’s meeting, Council Vice President Matthew Willard urged top leadership at the agency to provide updated customer service protocols by next week to improve proactive resolution of constituent issues.

NEW ORLEANS, LA — A significant water main leak in the 1400 block of Killdeer Street resulted in continuous water flow and substantial erosion around a large tree, ultimately causing the tree to lean and creating a potential threat to nearby property and public safety.

Councilmember Eugene Green visited the site on multiple occasions and has been in direct communication with SWBNO regarding the urgency of the situation. SWBNO crews are actively working to stop the water flow, complete the necessary repairs, and address the conditions created by the leak.

NEW ORLEANS, LA — On Monday, July 20, representatives of several agencies combined to conduct an operation that immediately reduced blight in the Desire community. The combined operation resulted in the immediate removal of 10 vehicles, with eight more vehicles pending removal. Representatives from the Department of Public Works fanned out through the community to affix violation notices on multiple inoperable vehicles and vehicles that were blocking the public right-of-way. In addition, the Department of Code Enforcement remediated several overgrown lots to allow for public sidewalk access. Particular attention was given to the area of Johnny Jackson Blvd. and Carver Rams Way, where inoperable vehicles were parked on random properties within the community.

NEW ORLEANS, LA — On Tuesday, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the City of New Orleans in the ongoing Wisner Trust litigation. In 1914, the Edward Wisner Donation bequeathed tens of thousands of acres of land to the City of New Orleans with the mandate that revenue generated from those assets be used for city beautification, education, health, and recreation.
