Councilmember Jared Brossett to Move Forward with Ordinance Mandating One-Time Suspension of Sanitation Fees

NEW ORLEANS - District “D” Councilmember Jared C. Brossett will seek to pass Ordinance 33,393, which mandates a one-time sanitation fee suspension, during tomorrow's regular Council meeting. This comes in the wake of Hurricane Ida, as many residents have gone an entire month without trash collection due to the storm.

NEW ORLEANS - District “D” Councilmember Jared C. Brossett has written a letter to President Biden asking him to forgive the remaining SBA loans that were granted due to Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, the Councilmember will be moving forward with a resolution at the next Council meeting, calling on Biden to forgive the loans.

Councilmember Brossett Pushes to Have Gas Stations Equipped with Ability to Switch to a Backup Generator in the Case of Disasters

During his time at the Legislature, Councilmember Brossett co-authored a bill that required all new gas stations to be capable of switching their power to a backup generator. He is now calling for it to be enforced and locally codified. 

NEW ORLEANS - In light of the major issues gas stations across the city had due to Hurricane Ida, District "D" Councilmember Jared C. Brossett is calling for LA RS 30:2195.12, a bill he helped pass as a State Representative, to be enforced by the state and locally codified.

*POSTPONED* Food Distribution at Ray’s on the Avenue Moved to Saturday, September 18

NEW ORLEANS - Due to Tropical Storm Nicholas, District "D" Councilmember Jared C. Brossett, Ray's on the Avenue, and Restaurant Depot have postponed the food distribution scheduled to take place Wednesday, September 15 at Ray's on the Avenue. The distribution is rescheduled for this Saturday, September 18, from 1 PM to 3 PM.

Councilmember Brossett Urges President Biden to Provide Federal Assistance to Strengthen New Orleans Power Grid and Relieve Ratepayers of Recovery Costs

In response to the catastrophic failure of the power grid in New Orleans, Councilmember Brossett is asking for federal funds to prevent another blackout in the face of stronger, more frequent hurricanes.

NEW ORLEANS - District "D" Councilmember Jared C. Brossett sent a letter to President Biden urging him to make a critical investment in New Orleans' energy infrastructure.

The letter asks President Biden and Congress to send federal funding to allow New Orleans to create a more resilient power grid. Additionally, Councilmember Brossett asks President Biden to urge Congress to expand the Stafford Act or create a Community Development Block Grant to relieve ratepayers of billions of dollars in estimated recovery costs from the storms that hit in 2020, in addition to the damage caused by Hurricane Ida.
