Council Resolution Focuses on Enhanced Enforcement for Short Term Rentals, Platform Accountability and Increased Funding for Affordable Housing

NEW ORLEANS - As the City Council deliberates implementing new regulations for short term rentals (STRs), a resolution introduced by Council Vice President Helena Moreno emphasizes the need to also address key issues regarding STRs: platform accountability, enhanced and reliable enforcement and insufficient fees meant to expand affordable housing. All members of the Council have now signed on as co-authors of this resolution.

NEW ORLEANS - Last night's government shutdown caused the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) to expire, putting in jeopardy programs for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault all across the country. In New Orleans, and throughout Louisiana, grants provided by VAWA are the major source of funding for victims' services.

City Council Utilities Committee Advances Two Important Items During December 13th Meeting

NEW ORLEANS - Today, the Council's Utilities Committee advanced two important items to help grow renewable energy and improve energy efficiency for New Orleanians. Additionally, Chair Moreno announced the approval of the City's own "Cost Allocation Zone," shielding New Orleanians from power construction project costs incurred across Louisiana and our region that don't benefit our ratepayers.
