NEW ORLEANS - During today's regular meeting, the Council adopted Resolution R-20-308 requesting that the City Attorney and Mayor's Administration make all reasonable and appropriate efforts to identify other alternatives to the new $51 million Phase III jail facility. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the finances of the City and thousands of its residents, forcing large event cancellations that continue to this day. Recent reports estimate these disruptions will have a $1.2 billion impact on the City, requiring local officials to make exceedingly difficult decisions about the services it can provide to its residents in the foreseeable future.

NEW ORLEANS - The City Council has extended the deadline for the Harrah's Community Grant application to July 1, 2020. At its next regular meeting on May 21, the Council will consider legislation to allow applicants to submit Cox Communications and Harrah's Casino Community Grant applications electronically via the Council's website.

NEW ORLEANS - Since launching SewDat on April 9, the City Council and partners, including the Mayor's Office and New Orleans Health Department, have already coordinated and supplied over 7,000 cloth face coverings to non-medical, essential workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis. 

NEW ORLEANS - Councilwoman Cyndi Nguyen, Chair of the Economic Development and Special Projects Committee of the New Orleans City Council, has called a meeting this Thursday, April 30, 2020, at 10 AM to share resources about loan programs available to support small businesses. 

NEW ORLEANS - In response to the ongoing public health challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, New Orleans Council President Helena Moreno announced the suspension of all public Council meetings through at least the end of March, including the Council's regular meeting next week on March 19th. President Moreno also closed City Council chambers for the same period and advised all boards and commissions to suspend their in-chamber meetings during the month of March.
