NEW ORLEANS (Dec. 5, 2025) — New Orleans Mayor-elect Helena Moreno, Rep. Troy A. Carter, Sr. (D-La.), New Orleans city councilmembers, and a broad coalition of civic, legal, business, and faith leaders gathered today to call for transparency, accountability, and the protection of civil rights as U.S. Customs and Border Protection carries out “Operation Catahoula Crunch” in New Orleans. 

NEW ORLEANS, LA —  The New Orleans City Council is introducing an online portal for citizens to report potential abuse from federal immigration officers. Following recent reports of escalating immigration enforcement in the Greater New Orleans area, the City Council created the Know Your Rights webpage to help citizens report potential abuse by federal agents and educate themselves on their rights when interacting with agencies such as Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol.

The news about Bryan Vazquez is devastating and certainly not the outcome we hoped for. I will honor my commitment to his family, advocates, and volunteers to create an improved alert system for vulnerable people in New Orleans and then push for a statewide system. Thank you to everyone who helped search for Bryan and offered assistance to his family. They will continue to need all of our support during this difficult time. 

NEW ORLEANS –The City Council applauds the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals for affirming the Council’s right to protect the interests of the City through contract review and approval. This Council will continue to ask questions and demand answers, especially when it comes to how public money is spent.
