NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans City Council Vice President Jason Williams has released the following statement in response to the Urban League of Louisiana's "Essential Strategies for Equitable COVID-19 Response in Louisiana" to help guide efforts to increase the health and safety of vulnerable populations:

Councilmember Jason Williams Issues Statement in Response to Today's U.S. Supreme Court Decision Abolishing Split Juries
NEW ORLEANS - City Council Vice President Jason Williams has released the following statement in response to news of today's U.S. Supreme Court decision abolishing split juries:
 

"The result of today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court is truly momentous, as it creates a more equitable opportunity to achieve justice in a historically slanted system. Even very conservative judges weighed in strongly, noting 'evidence that the racism that spawned the split verdict law 120 years ago in Louisiana remains embedded within it today.' The decision is also a reminder that we should not blindly rely on old, broken policies and systems to achieve the goal of real public safety.

NEW ORLEANS - Council Vice President Jason Williams announced today that two billboard companies operating in New Orleans have stepped up to provide messaging on behalf of the City Council during the Coronavirus crisis. Pelican Outdoor Advertising and Lamar Advertising of New Orleans will both feature messaging pertaining to the containment of the Coronavirus threat and the importance of the census to New Orleans' long-term recovery from this debilitating pandemic.

NEW ORLEANS - Council Vice President and Smart and Sustainable Cities Committee Chair Jason Williams has announced a new dashboard for tracking COVID-19 cases in Louisiana and Orleans Parish. 

 

"We created this new committee to find ways to use technology and data to enhance the lives of and support the people of New Orleans. Keeping people up-to-date as we face a global pandemic locally is fulfilling that commitment," said Councilmember Williams.
