Council President Moreno Praises Selection of Former Mayor Mitch Landrieu as President’s Senior Advisor for Infrastructure

NEW ORLEANS - Today, Council President Helena Moreno praised the hiring of former mayor Mitch Landrieu as Senior Advisor and Infrastructure Coordinator for President Biden's bipartisan infrastructure bill. The nearly $1 trillion package is the largest federal investment in US infrastructure in history.

“Mayor Landrieu is exactly the leader this country needs to effectively and aggressively implement the landmark bipartisan infrastructure package,” said Council President Moreno. “New Orleans needs a significant investment in grid hardening and resiliency, as well as drainage, water management, and more. Mayor Landrieu knows intimately the needs of our city, and I’m confident he’ll be a powerful ally for New Orleans in D.C.”

NEW ORLEANS - Council President Helena Moreno received unanimous support for her plan to open a docket on grid hardening and resiliency at Wednesday’s Special Council Meeting. The docket would prepare New Orleans for the more than $500 billion of federal climate spending announced through the President’s Build Back Better and Infrastructure packages now advancing in Congress.

Council President Moreno Announces Plan to Lower Rates and Power Utility Bills from Proposed Formula Rate Plan

NEW ORLEANS - Today, Council President and Utility, Cable, Telecommunications and Technology Committee Chair Helena Moreno announced a plan to lower rates that goes into effect November 2021 through the Formula Rate Plan (FRP).

The proposal involves pressing ahead with $18 million of customer bill credits, accepting 100% of the identified error reductions from Entergy's initial submission, and creating a $5 million fund to address gas customer bills. In total, the plan would negate any impacts on electric bills until next spring and create a pathway to assist gas customers.
