Councilmember Eugene Green Applauds Shutdown of 7th Ward Drug Operation

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Councilman Eugene Green praised the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office for helping the entire community when it closed down the drug operation at Fat’s Car Wash in the 7th Ward.

The closing was done in collaboration with various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on Monday. The car wash is located across the street from St. Augustine's football practice field and is close to the school's campus, Life of Christ Christian Academy, and the Magical Moments Learning Center.

“The people whose lives were negatively affected by the sale and consumption of dangerous drugs deserve the support,” Councilman Green said. “The young men of St. Augustine High School who practice band and football across the street deserve safety.  The neighbors who have invested in their property and community deserve respect for their safety and lives. The people who shop at the nearby restaurant and grocery store, the drug store, and the bakery deserve a safer environment.”

Councilman Green credited District Attorney Jason Williams for his work to shut down the facility, which had owners allegedly being active participants in the drug ring, making, packing, and selling the drugs.

“The Office of the District Attorney, the New Orleans Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Louisiana State Police, and other partners involved with this operation are to be commended for the cooperative work,” Green said. “Public safety in our community deserves motivated and focused work on the part of those entrusted with creating safer communities. The community is stronger today because of the success of this operation.”

Councilman Green said the drug bust was a big day for crime-fighting in New Orleans.

He also added that the operation sends a clear message: “This should serve as a warning to law breakers that if you do these types of things you will be caught and prosecuted.”
