District D, Jared C. Brossett
NEW ORLEANS - District "D" Councilmember Jared Brossett will join City and State officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Nora Navra library at 1902 St. Bernard Avenue on Friday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. The $3.3M reconstruction project, which began in March of 2017, represents a critical investment in the 7th Ward and the St. Bernard Avenue Corridor communities.
The new world-class library, built upon the original 2,500 square foot library that was severely damaged and demolished following Hurricane Katrina, is a 7,800 square foot facility consisting of adult and children reading areas, computer workstations, meeting rooms, staff offices and break rooms. In addition, the new library is energy efficient featuring a hurricane resistant exterior, high-efficiency HVAC systems, insulated roofs and walls, LED lighting, and ADA accessibility. Friday's grand opening celebration will mark the official reopening of all six of the city's libraries that were damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Katrina.
