NEW ORLEANS- Councilmember Palmer is seriously concerned with the recent request from Entergy New Orleans (ENO) to increase rates for its customers, particularly those who live in Algiers.

"It's ridiculous that Entergy is asking for a massive, double-digit rate increase from Algiers residents. Entergy's job is to provide reliable utility services for New Orleanians, yet it seems like every time we turn around they are expecting more money without meeting their customers' needs in the first place. I am actively involved in the comprehensive review of Entergy's proposed rate request and will work diligently to find areas where the company is overreaching."

The City Council is well equipped through its Utility Committee to scrub the application thoroughly and to hold ENO accountable during the rate case process. The Council will leave no stone unturned in assuring that all customers are protected against any overreach by Entergy.

"Based upon preliminary observations about the rate case filed last week by Entergy New Orleans, I share Councilmember Palmer's concerns about the significant rate increase being proposed for Algiers' customers. Although the filing only represents ENO's initial proposal, as a member of the Utility, Cable, Telecommunications and Technology Committee (UCTTC), I intend to scrutinize the proposal and insist on using every available mechanism to prevent or mitigate any rate increase for any customers, including Algiers," said District "D" Councilmember Jared C. Brossett. "I feel confident that the UCTTC will diligently exercise our oversight to assure that the entire rate case will be fully and fairly litigated, resulting in the best possible record for the full protection of ratepayers, East and West Bank. Our Committee intends to maintain our excellent record in keeping rates low within the scope of our regulatory authority."

"The size of the proposed rate increase for Algiers customers is appalling. I intend to work diligently with Councilmember Gisleson-Palmer and the rest of the Council to ensure that all ratepayers are treated fairly," said Councilmember-at-Large Helena Moreno.

"I was surprised that Entergy would propose a rate increase at this time," said District "B" Councilmember Jay Banks.

Additionally, Councilmember Palmer is encouraging customers to express their concerns in regards to the rate hike proposal directly to Entergy and its leadership.
