NEW ORLEANS - Councilmember Helena Moreno's Office and the Mayor's Office are partnering with United Way of Southeast Louisiana to collect toiletry and essential items to assist thousands of Laura victims who are sheltered in numerous New Orleans hotels. Volunteers completed close to 2000 bags with toiletries for evacuees at the Sheraton and Marriott today, but more supplies are needed.
"15 years ago, we, the people of New Orleans, were in great need. We remember what it was like to feel the devastation and despair of a major storm, and know how it feels to know that home as you knew it, is no longer there. So now it is our time to give back. We hope that we can bring a bit of comport to Hurricane Laura evacuees sheltering in New Orleans by providing assistance. We welcome them here and will do all we can to help them get through these difficult times," said Council Vice President Helena Moreno.
Items being sought for donations include soap, hand sanitizer, masks, lotion, powder, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, brush, comb, cotton swabs, chapstick, small children's toys, and feminine hygiene products.
These items can be dropped off at:
United Way of Southeast Louisiana
2515 Canal Street
New Orleans, LA 70119
Monday and Tuesday from 10 AM - 3 PM
