NEW ORLEANS, LA — District E Councilmember Oliver M. Thomas has formally requested an update from Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) Executive Director Randy Hayman regarding the status of the agency’s Lead Service Line Replacement Program and the pending contract award for its long-term management.
The letter, attached to this release, asks Executive Director Hayman to provide a clear timeline, current progress metrics, and details on how the agency plans to ensure safe and effective long-term oversight of the program. The request follows ongoing public interest in understanding how SWBNO will address remaining lead service lines across the city and ensure transparency around the contract selection process.
Councilmember Thomas emphasized that timely communication is essential to maintaining public trust and ensuring that New Orleans residents receive accurate information about critical water infrastructure upgrades. “New Orleans families deserve safe, lead-free drinking water. This program is vital not only for public health and environmental justice but also for maintaining the City's credibility, demonstrating readiness for federal investment, and protecting millions of dollars in existing allocations”.
