REMINDER: 2025 CARNIVAL SEASON ENFORCEMENT

NEW ORLEANS - In partnership with the Parks & Parkways Department, the New Orleans City Council is reminding parade-goers of enforcement measures that will be implemented on the route. Although the Council granted discretion to the NOPD in regards to Mardi Gras enforcement, the law has not been suspended and is in full effect.

Per Municipal Ordinance Section 34:33 (M.C.S. Ord. No. 30002), no items are to be placed on the public right-of-way, along the parade route, more than four hours before the start of a parade. The timing for each parade is as follows (subject to change):

The following items are prohibited at all times along the parade route:

  • Portable toilets, unless authorized by the Department of Safety and Permits
  • Enclosures of all kinds – Any item used to enclose a public area: tents, canopies, shelters, screens, awnings, ropes, spray paint, any other type of barricade
  • Open flames
  • Gas or diesel generators
  • Upholstered furniture, scaffolding, platforms, ladders taller than six feet
  • Ladders must be free-standing and may not be fastened together, and must be placed at least six feet back from the curb along with all chairs and other personal effects
