Important Safety Rules and Regulations for 2026 Mardi Gras Season
The Council urges residents to adhere to the following safety rules during the upcoming Mardi Gras season:
-
For any Krewe whose authorized parade route ends at Tchoupitoulas Street, all throwing must stop there, even if floats continue to the Convention Center. Any activity beyond Tchoupitoulas Street falls outside the parade route, and the City will not provide cleanup services past that point.
-
No confetti can be used or thrown during Mardi Gras festivities. This includes paper, Mylar, and metallic confetti. Additionally, the use of confetti guns is prohibited. In prior years, leftover confetti debris has caused public safety issues and power outages for residents throughout the city. As such, violations of this confetti ban will be strictly enforced.
- Parade goers may not place or use tents, generators, open flames (including grills), or upholstered furniture on parade routes. All ladders must be six feet back from the curb, and attendees may not enclose public space with ropes or other makeshift barriers. Additionally, under a previously adopted Ordinance, pets are not allowed on parade routes, except for service animals.
