District D, Eugene J. Green
NEW ORLEANS, LA — Councilmember Eugene Green praised the Orleans Parish School Board’s approval of the amended Cooperative Endeavor Agreement for the 9th Ward Stadium, clearing the way for construction of the long-awaited multi-sport facility in the Upper Ninth Ward.
“This vote moves the 9th Ward Stadium from planning to progress,” said Councilmember Green. “It reflects years of work and a shared commitment to investing in our students and a community that has historically been underserved.”
Located next to George Washington Carver High School, the stadium will serve as the school’s home field and a community asset for athletic events, graduations, and neighborhood programming. Funded through a combination of federal, state, city, voter-approved bonds, and private investment, the project is fully financed and positioned for long-term sustainability.
“This is more than a stadium,” Green added. “It is a meaningful public investment in the future of the Ninth Ward and a symbol of continued recovery and opportunity.”
Construction is expected to begin this spring, with completion anticipated in 2027.
