Councilmember Lesli Harris Applauds Convention Center and RDNI for River District Reset and Housing Progress

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Today, the Convention Center and RDNI took an important step forward in advancing the River District, including delivering on the promise of 900 new residential units, 450 of which will be affordable and workforce housing.

Both parties agreed on an overall reset today, after conversations with Councilmember Lesli Harris, who has consistently advocated for responsible development of the River District site.

Not only did the Convention Center extend development deadlines, but its members committed to moving residential development to the former Top Golf site, as originally promised to nearby residents. Retail options that serve the neighborhood are also back on the table, including a possible grocery store.

Following the meeting, Councilmember Harris offered the following statement.

“Today is a reset, but it’s more than that. We as partners are affirming our commitment to creating a transformational new neighborhood in District B, which serves residents first and foremost, with benefits to our city’s visitors. I look forward to continue working with all stakeholders - including neighbors, the Convention Center, and developers - to ensure this is a true win for the city and the community.”
