NEW ORLEANS - Councilmember-At-Large Helena Moreno and District 'B' Councilmember Lesli Harris are issuing a reminder that the Council is currently soliciting proposals from structural engineers or engineering firms to provide professional services to the Council regarding advice and assistance related to potential legislative solutions to reduce the risk of collapse of privately-owned structures in the city.
The complete Request for Proposals can be found here. The deadline is 5:00 p.m. on July 31, 2025.
"Building and façade collapses in New Orleans call for our immediate attention and the expertise of engineers and engineering firms to help identify essential steps for making structural inspections more thorough and effective," said City Council Vice President Helena Moreno. "We cannot stand by as structural dangers in our communities continue to threaten public safety, disrupt businesses, damage property, and strain first responder resources. It's crucial that we develop clear strategies to enhance inspection processes, overcome any legal or regulatory barriers, and establish a plan to better protect our residents and local businesses."
“We’ve seen far too many businesses and residents hurt due to building collapses in New Orleans,” said Councilmember Lesli Harris. “This RFP is about getting ahead of the problem by bringing in expert guidance to help us craft meaningful, enforceable policies. We need to ensure that every resident and business in our city is safe, and that starts with strong legislation and smart inspections.”
