NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans City Council has released the following joint statement, on behalf of all seven councilmembers, regarding the recent developments at 1201 Canal Street:

“The Council has been made aware of the situation at 1201 Canal Street. We are outraged that representatives of this property misled the Council on June 12, 2025, when they sought this IZD exemption.

The full Council will take action regarding 1201 Canal Street property at the July 10th Council Meeting if this issue is not resolved immediately.”

In their original appeal, representatives of 1201 Canal Street stated on Page 6, Question #7 that the IZD appeal would “[result] in no decrease to long-term housing.” However, in spite of this representation, reports state that dozens of residents received eviction notices this week.
