NEW ORLEANS, LA — Councilmember Jason Hughes is inviting young residents from New Orleans East and the Lower Ninth Ward to apply for the inaugural District E Youth Leadership Council (DEYLC), a new initiative designed to empower the next generation of community leaders.
The Youth Leadership Council will provide participants ages 14 to 21 with opportunities to develop leadership, public speaking, and civic engagement skills while advising on issues impacting young people throughout District E. Members will serve a one-year term and participate in monthly or bi-monthly meetings focused on community service, leadership development, and local government.
"Our young people have valuable perspectives and ideas that deserve to be heard," said Councilmember Hughes. "The District E Youth Leadership Council is an opportunity for the next generation of leaders to become engaged, strengthen their leadership skills, and help shape the future of their neighborhoods. I encourage every eligible young person with a passion for service to apply."
Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 21 and reside in New Orleans East or the Lower Ninth Ward. Applications are open now and must be submitted by July 24, 2026.
