Councilmember Banks Invites Key Stakeholders to Criminal Justice Committee Meeting Following Pollock Tragedy

Councilmember Banks Invites Key Stakeholders to Criminal Justice Committee Meeting Following Pollock Tragedy

NEW ORLEANS - In a letter sent on Friday, June 11, District "B" Councilmember Jay H. Banks requested the participation of Chief Judge Herman, Judge Harris & Judicial Administrator Kazik at Wednesday’s upcoming Criminal Justice Committee Meeting to have a discussion clarifying the procedures that determine eligibility for electronic monitoring.

This request for information comes in the wake of a recent tragedy. Bryan Andry, the person suspected and arrested in the murder of Ms. Portia Pollock, was out of jail on an unrelated offense when Pollock was attacked. He was reported to have been placed on electronic monitoring by the courts.

"We will never know if this tragedy could have been prevented," Councilmember Banks said. "But in the hope of preventing others, this conversation is crucial to providing answers and transparency."

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 16, at 10 a.m. in City Council Chambers.
