NEW ORLEANS, LA –– At its regular meeting today, the City Council adopted several pieces of legislation, including Ordinance Nos. 35,450 and 35,451 appropriating funds for the implementation of the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) 8th District Drone Program within the French Quarter Economic Development District (FQEDD). Additionally, the Council voted on Motion M-26-255 relating to the Convention Center Hotel Overlay District.
Before the start of the meeting, the Council recognized Sarah T. Reed High School for its legacy of educating countless students in New Orleans and for how its alumni continue to inspire the next generation of leaders.
As part of the Special Orders of Business, the Council recognized the 90th anniversary of the New Orleans Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. This recognition is an opportunity to honor the Sorority's founders, past and present leaders, and the countless members who have contributed to the community's development.

The Council also recognized the 90th anniversary of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Through its continued work in mentorship, civic engagement, and leadership development, the chapter remains dedicated to advancing Kappa Alpha Psi's mission while strengthening the communities it serves throughout the Greater New Orleans area.

Council Advances Convention Center Hotel Overlay District Regulations
The Council adopted Motion M-26-255, which directs the law department to draft an ordinance reflecting approval of Zoning Docket 24/26. This Zoning Docket establishes the Convention Center Hotel Overlay District.
The overlay district would create new regulations affecting the permitted land uses, allowable building heights, floor area ration (FAR) limits, design standards, bicycle parking requirements, loading space requirements, curb cut allowances, signage restrictions, and exterior lighting requirements.
Council Reallocates Funds for NOPD 8th District Drone Program in FQEDD
The Council Adopted Ordinance Nos. 35,540 and 35,541, which amend the Operating Budget of Revenues and Expenditures, respectively, to appropriate funds for the implementation of the NOPD 8th District Drone Program within the FQEDD. These ordinances reallocate funds previously appropriated to the FQEDD to ensure they are deposited into the correct account so they can be spent as intended.
Public Hearing Advanced on Transient Lodging and Short-Term Rental Zoning Changes
The Council adopted Motion M-26-229, which directs the CPC to hold a public hearing and to recommend amendments to the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance (CZO) regarding transient lodging uses, including short-term rentals.
This motion marks the next phase of a multi-year effort to review and update regulations governing transient lodging uses, including hotels, motels, commercial short-term rentals, timeshares, and hostels. The proposed zoning amendments are based on the findings of the Transient Lodging Study conducted by Desire Line and submitted to the Council earlier this year.
