Appointments for Boards and Commissions
The committee discussed and voted on several Board and Commission appointments. The committee favorably recommended LaVerne Toombs, Kenneth Barton Farris, and Alvin L. Barrington for the Audubon Commission. The committee also favorably recommended Tanchanelle Washington to the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority.
Appointments to the Board of Zoning Adjustments were deferred. Next, the committee favorably recommended Nissan Patel for the Regional Planning Commission, Bishop Tyrone G. Jefferson for the Ethics Review Board, and Katherine Baudouin for the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission.
Update to Towing and Boot Fees
The committee voted on Ordinance No. 35,447, which amends Section 154-777 of the City Code to increase the fee charged for booting unoccupied vehicles with unpaid parking violations. Specifically, the immobilization fee would be set at 75% of the minimum non-consensual towing rate established annually by the Louisiana Public Service Commission, rounded up to the nearest dollar. For regular-sized vehicles, that amount would be $172.
Discussion and Vote on City Agreements
The committee recommended approval of two agreements. The first was an agreement between the City and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) authorizing the Mayor to enter into a cooperative agreement with HUD to support Lead Hazard Reduction Capacity Building efforts. The program aims to strengthen the City’s ability to address lead hazards in privately owned housing and to prepare for future large-scale housing development and rehabilitation initiatives.
The second agreement was between the City and the Louisiana Department of Health’s STD, HIV, and Hepatitis C Program, which provides federally funded HIV-related services to prevent new infections, expand access to prevention and treatment resources, link individuals to care, and reduce HIV-related stigma. Funded entirely through a CDC grant administered by LDH, the agreement covers activities from September 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026.
