City Council Budget Committee to discuss nearly $2 billion in unfinished street repairs, plan to finish select projects

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans City Council Budget Committee will hear presentations on Thursday, March 20 on the unfinished road projects and how the City plans to finish them.

The committee has requested information from CDM Smith and City Administration on the plan to finish nearly $2 billion in road repairs through the Joint Infrastructure Recovery Request (JIRR) program. We have requested information specifically to address the following:

  • The methodology used to determine which projects should move forward vs. which projects should remain incomplete
  • A list and map of projects set to be completed with the remaining FEMA funds, and the timeline, status, and scope of those projects
  • A list and map of projects that were not included in funding and how much funding is needed to complete
  • How contractors will coordinate with the ongoing Sewerage and Water Board SSERP drainage projects, so we are not tearing up streets twice

The committee will also hear from the Administration on a proposed, upcoming Bond Proposition. We have requested the Administration provide more details about the projects included in the bond sale, and their estimated costs.

The Budget Committee will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 in Council Chambers (1300 Perdido Street). The meeting is open to the public.
