Councilmember Eugene Green Welcomes CPC Recommendation Advancing 9th Ward Stadium Zoning

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Councilmember Eugene Green welcomed today’s favorable recommendation from the City Planning Commission on zoning changes needed for the 9th Ward Stadium project, marking another key step toward construction of the long-anticipated facility in the Upper Ninth Ward.

The CPC approved Zoning Docket 032/26, recommending a zoning change for the site at 4290 Almonaster Avenue and 3059 Higgins Bouleva rd to allow for a Regional Open Space designation and a conditional use for a stadium. “Today’s action keeps this important project moving forward,” said Councilmember Green. “The 9th Ward Stadium represents a long-overdue investment in our students and in a community that deserves quality infrastructure and opportunity.”

The proposed stadium, located near George Washington Carver High School, is planned as a multi-use facility serving student athletics and community events across the city.

The matter will now move to the City Council for final consideration. “This is about delivering real progress for the Ninth Ward,” Councilmember Green added. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to bring this project across the finish line.”
