NEW ORLEANS, LA - On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the Governmental Affairs Committee convened to review several appointments to various boards and departments.
Confirmation Hearing of Ayssa Rambeau as Director of Finance
The Committee conducted a hearing to consider the confirmation of Alyssa W. Rambeau as the Director of the Department of Finance. Rambeau earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University and an MBA from the University of New Orleans.
In terms of experience, she is the current Vice President of Finance at OrthoSynetics, Inc. Rambeau was previously the Head of Accounting Strategy at Gilded, Inc., and served as the Director of Financial Reporting at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
During her hearing, Rambeau discussed her priorities for the Department of Finance if she is confirmed for the role. She highlighted cash management, strong forecasting, accuracy, transparency, timeliness, and accountability as key areas she plans to strengthen early in her leadership. After questions from the Committee about her plan of action and future goals, the Committee voted to recommend her favorably to the full Council as Director.
Appointments to the Aviation and Sewerage & Water Board
The Committee considered James Williams' appointment to the New Orleans Aviation Board. Williams graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and he earned his Juris Doctor from Washington & Lee University Law School. Williams currently serves as the Head of Litigation with Chehardy Sherman Williams Law Firm. Following questioning, the Committee voted to recommend Williams favorably to the full Council.
Next, the Committee considered Jonathan Stewart's appointment to the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans. Stewart studied at Tulane University's A.B. Freeman School of Business for 4 years. He has prior experience in government with the Department of Homeland Security and the New Orleans City Planning Commission. Stewart is also a member of the New Orleans Council of Aging and the New Growth Economic Development Association. After questioning, the Committee voted to recommend Stewart favorably to the full Council.
The Committee deferred John Milazzo's appointment to the Finance Authority of New Orleans to a later date.
