NEW ORLEANS, LA — Councilmember Aimee McCarron will host a “Light the Night” community walk in the Hollygrove-Dixon neighborhood on Monday, May 18. This initiative is focused on identifying streetlights that have been out for a significant period of time and highlighting areas where additional lighting would improve public safety and neighborhood visibility.
Addressing streetlight infrastructure across the city remains a shared priority with Mayor Helena Moreno’s Administration, and this effort aligns directly with broader citywide goals to enhance safety, responsiveness, and quality of life for residents. The event will provide an opportunity to engage directly with City officials, observe conditions firsthand, and discuss coordinated strategies for improving streetlight maintenance and expansion where needed. City officials and community leaders will be present.
Councilmember McCarron’s first Light the Night event, held in Hollygrove, cataloged nearly 30 infrastructure issues, ranging from broken utility poles to damaged sidewalks. These issues were reported to the appropriate department, and many have been repaired. Councilmember McCarron’s office continues to follow up on the remaining issues.
We hope you will join us as we work together to shine a light on this important issue for Hollygrove-Dixon and communities across the city.
