Councilmember Eugene Green Applauds Fourth Circuit Wisner Trust Ruling

NEW ORLEANS, LA — On Tuesday, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the City of New Orleans in the ongoing Wisner Trust litigation. In 1914, the Edward Wisner Donation bequeathed tens of thousands of acres of land to the City of New Orleans with the mandate that revenue generated from those assets be used for city beautification, education, health, and recreation.

District D Councilmember Eugene Green issued the following statement in response to the ruling:

“The Fourth Circuit’s ruling is an important victory and reflects a clear intent spanning more than 100 years to ensure these funds remain available to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of our city. The Court’s decision helps secure recurring revenue that can support critical public priorities and strengthens the City’s long-term financial position. I commend the Moreno Administration and the legal teams whose persistence and unified efforts helped achieve this outcome. Most importantly, this decision reaffirms that these assets belong to the people of New Orleans and should continue serving residents for generations to come.”
