Councilmembers Morrell, Willard, McCarron, King, and Hughes Issue Statement on Letter From Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill

Seal of the City of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA — New Orleans City Councilmembers JP Morrell, Matthew Willard, Aimee McCarron. Freddie King III, and Jason Hughes issue a statement in response to the letter received from Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill:

“Today, five members of the New Orleans City Council received a letter from Attorney General Liz Murrill. That letter threatened to remove the five of us from office under a law created in 1873 and amended in 1960 to intimidate officials from standing up for what's right. This is an obvious attempt to prevent the courts from resolving legal questions and interpretations. We will not be intimidated. We will not bow down. These councilmembers will always stand up for what's right. The five of us stand together united and undaunted by these efforts. We look forward to our day in court.”
