NEW ORLEANS - Today, Councilmember-At-Large Helena Moreno will referee the mounted soccer game between the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) and Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office beginning at 5 p.m.

The event represents the first in a series of Mounted Police and Sheriff's Department Soccer Games presented by Hancock Whitney with winners advancing to the Mounted World Cup taking place in New Orleans in March. Unlike most soccer games, today's will be played by officers on horseback!

In addition, the NOPD District Cook-Off will be taking place. The public is invited to come out and sample delicious homemade chili from NOPD officers in each district. Judges will then select the NOPD District Chili Cook-off champion, who will not only receive a year's worth of bragging rights but a special gift for their district. There will also be a number of surprise guests, and the NOPD's K9 Unit will be providing demonstrations between games.

The first playoff game will be Baton Rouge Police Department vs. the Oxford, MS Police Department, followed by NOPD vs. Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. Admission is free and open to the public, and food and beverages will be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the NOPD's Born and Bred Program.
