Councilmember Jared Brossett to Host Inaugural Thanksgiving Event and Turkey Giveaway in Partnership with Winn Dixie

NEW ORLEANS - District "D" Councilmember Jared Brossett will be hosting a special Thanksgiving celebration to provide free turkeys to local families on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Beacon Light Church. In partnership with Winn Dixie, Councilmember Brossett will be donating 500 turkeys (one per family) on a first-come, first-served basis as well as additional giveaways from event sponsors including AT&T, Total Community Action (TCA) and Harrah's New Orleans.

"While for many of us, Thanksgiving represents a joyous occasion with loved ones, food and friends, for others, it can be a time of great financial and emotional stress," said Councilmember Brossett. "That's why my staff and I are so proud to be bringing this event to District 'D' to help ease the burden for those families and ensure Thanksgiving is a time all of us can enjoy. I'm incredibly grateful for the generosity of Winn Dixie and our various partners for helping us make this dream a reality."

In addition to providing Thanksgiving food, funds and more to families in need, the event will also include live entertainment from the church choir, local DJs and musicians, and brief remarks from Councilmember Brossett, Winn Dixie and partners.

"Winn-Dixie has been deeply rooted in New Orleans for the past 63 years," said Joey Medina, Winn-Dixie Regional Vice President. "Community is who we are and what we're all about. We are so proud to partner with the City of New Orleans and Councilmember Brossett to support the people who have supported us for six decades."

"Harrah's New Orleans is excited to partner with Councilmember Brossett and Total Community Action, Inc. as a sponsor of the Thanksgiving Food Turkey Giveaway Event. In keeping with Caesars' People Planet Play initiative, Harrah's strives to make a positive impact in the New Orleans metro area and surrounding communities. Over the past five years, Harrah's team members have collectively volunteered more than 40,000 hours in the community through the Harrah's Employees Reaching Out or HERO program. Harrah's has contributed five million dollars and counting to local civic organizations in the past year. Harrah's is honored to support Councilmember Brossett and the great work TCA is doing to provide human services, experiences and opportunities that move people from poverty to self-sufficiency," said Maggie Matlak, Manager of Community Relations and Engagement at Harrah's New Orleans.
