District D, Eugene J. Green
NEW ORLEANS, LA — District D Councilmember Eugene Green, released the following statement on the passing of Veronica Downs-Dorsery:
“The City mourns the loss of Veronica Lee Downs-Dorsey, a beloved educator, choir director, and mentor whose life was a testament to faith, service, and the transformative power of music. For decades, Ms. Dorsey inspired generations of young people through her work at Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church and in the Orleans Parish public school system, using her voice and her heart to uplift others,” said Councilmember Green.
Her dedication to sharing the Gospel through music and her commitment to nurturing talent left a mark on our city’s cultural and spiritual landscape. We honor her not only for her musical gifts, but for the love, joy, and devotion she poured into every life she touched.
On behalf of the New Orleans City Council, we extend our deepest condolences to her daughter, Véronique, her husband Wardell Dorsey, and all who were blessed to know and learn from her.”
