Dillard University to Hold 12th Annual Housing, Health and Community Resources Fair in District "D"

NEW ORLEANS - The 12th Annual Housing, Health and Community Resources Fair will take place on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Professionals Schools Building on Dillard University's campus. The event is free to attend and will feature more than 70 exhibitors representing health care service, construction, finance, insurance, job training and employment agencies, technology services, and more.

Additionally, this year's event will include presentations from the City of New Orleans Office of Resilience + Sustainability Program and the New Orleans Redevelopment Grant Program for Gentilly residents. The City of New Orleans was awarded $141M from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and FEMA to address stormwater management in the Gentilly section of New Orleans. In conjunction with Saturday's fair, Councilmembers Brossett and Williams, Orleans Public Defenders and the Juror Protect are hosting "UNITED IN OUR RIGHTS EMPOWERING EQUALITY: a Know Your Rights Forum" on Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Georges Auditorium.

"Through the $141M HUD grant, the city's first-ever resilience district was established right here in District 'D' to reduce flood risk, improve energy reliability, encourage neighborhood revitalization and provide contract opportunities for businesses throughout the entire City of New Orleans," said Councilmember Brossett. "The City received this grant in part due to the Living Wage Ordinance I authored in 2015, and I am extremely proud and excited to see these efforts result in lasting positive impacts for Gentilly residents. I encourage everyone to join us at Dillard this weekend and participate in these free and informative events as we continue to make our community a better place to live, work and play for all."

The 12th Annual Housing, Health and Community Resources Fair is co-sponsored by the Finance Authority of New Orleans, Capital One Bank, Regions Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, Healthy Blue Louisiana, United Healthcare, AARP, Enterprise Community Partners, Iberia Bank, Metairie Bank, LSU Health and Science Center, Sodexo Dining Services, Aetna Healthcare, Stantec, City of New Orleans Gentilly Resilient Office and Neighborhood Development Foundation.
