Councilmember Palmer Partners with RIDE New Orleans and Roll to the Polls to Offer Free RTA Transit Passes During Early Voting

NEW ORLEANS- Today, District "C" Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer announced a partnership with Ride New Orleans and Roll to the Polls to giveaway 750 Regional Transit Authority (RTA) day passes during early voting. The RTA transit passes will give voters the ability to access all public transportation modes to ensure they can get to the polls to early vote.

In June 2020, the RTA adopted a policy to waive all transit fares on an election day, but it does not include early voting. RIDE New Orleans and Roll to the Polls are working to ensure early voters who rely on public transportation can get to the polls. During early voting, October 16 thru October 27, volunteers will provide free day passes at transit hubs. Councilmember Palmer and partners will kick off their initiative on the first day of early voting, Friday, October 16, at 4 PM by handing out bus passes at Duncan Plaza Historical Monument Park, the RTA downtown transit hub.

A number of day passes will be available for organizations that serve residents who need assistance or transportation getting to early voting polling locations. Contact courtney@rideneworleans.org for more information.

"It is our responsibility to ensure everyone has the ability to participate in the voting process, and removing access to transportation as a key barrier is an important step. I want to thank RIDE New Orleans and Roll to the Polls for their leadership on this issue. This initiative supports the work of the RTA in providing accessible transportation options for voters on Election Day and during early voting," said Councilmember Palmer
