Councilmembers Kristin Gisleson Palmer and Jay H. Banks Applaud CPC for Scheduling Second Meeting on Short Term Rentals

NEW ORLEANS  - Today, the City Planning Commission (CPC) announced a special public hearing on its Short Term Rental (STR) Study. The CPC's decision comes after its first meeting earlier this week on the issue was met with complaints from citizens who waited hours to speak and did not receive the opportunity to do so. Councilmembers Palmer and Banks praised the CPC's immediate actions to address those complaints and are requesting citizens be allowed enough speaking time to make their views known.

"Encouraging citizens to be part of the process to improve the City's STR program is the key to good governance. However, it's imperative that their time is valued and their voices are heard. I applaud the Commission for addressing the inconvenience and frustration this may have caused citizens who waited hours to speak on this important issue for our city," said Councilmember Palmer.

Councilmember Banks stated, "This is a major issue that is going to affect life in New Orleans for a very long time, and every citizen who wants to be heard should be heard. I commend the CPC for taking the necessary steps to make sure the voices are heard."

The CPC will conduct its next public hearing on STRs on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
