District D, Eugene J. Green
NEW ORLEANS, LA — Councilman Eugene J. Green welcomes the acquisition of the former Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church campus by Art Temple, an organization that intends to use the historic property to provide education, resources, and support for New Orleans artists.
For more than a century, Our Lady Star of the Sea, located at 1901 St. Roch Ave., served as a spiritual and community pillar in the St. Roch neighborhood. The acquisition of the campus, coupled with plans to create a space dedicated to supporting established and emerging artists, represents an exciting new chapter for both the property and the surrounding community.
“The residents of this community, long accustomed to the Church’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for so many people, deserve a use for Our Lady Star of the Sea that continues its tradition of service,” said Councilman Green. “I look forward to seeing this historic campus once again become a place that supports growth, opportunity, and community, this time by investing in the artists and creatives who contribute so much to the culture and identity of our city.”
