JJIC Members Discuss Youth Crime and Rehabilitation
The committee held a video call with JJIC Executive Director Dichelle Williams. Williams spoke to the committee and provided details about the JJIC. The JJIC is a juvenile detention facility that provides safe, secure pre-trial detention for youths charged with a delinquent offense. Currently, the facility has a capacity of 76 and houses 51 youth.
Several anonymous JJIC youth spoke before the committee to share their lived experiences, giving greater insight into their lives and the circumstances surrounding their involvement in JJIC. After hearing directly from these youths, the committee thanked them for their courage in vulnerably sharing their experiences, and encouraged constituents to support JJIC and the youth in their community in any way they can.
Ubuntu Village Contract Extension
The committee recommended approval of Amendment No. 2 to the Professional Services Agreement between Ubuntu Village NOLA and the City. This contract allows Ubuntu Village NOLA to continue to provide technical assistance and consulting services related to conflict resolution and gun violence prevention through the Peace Ambassador Program. The amendment extends the agreement through December 31, 2027. The amendment also provides $1.2 million in general funds to the contract limit, increasing the agreement’s maximum total value from $1.6 million to $2.8 million.
