Dear Taxing Authorities:

This is a quadrennial reassessment year. As reported, the average property value has shot up by 23%. Residents are already burdened with skyrocketing insurance rates, higher utility costs, and increased costs for goods and services. They have been writing us to say they are tapped out.

Some of you have millages either up for renewal on the upcoming ballot or coming up shortly. Others have inquired about rate increases. Certain entities have surpluses.

As a result of significant rising costs, available resources, and outstanding requests, please do not roll your millages forward. Residents need our help. You not only can say but also show your care for their needs.

Remember, because of the 2020 quadrennial reassessment- based on the current Budget Chair's plan- we rolled some millages forward and others backward. That saved taxpayers over $60 million. We are committed to not rolling the millages fully forward. We ask that you not roll your respective millages forward either. 

The New Orleans City Council, signed by all 7 Councilmembers, sent the below letter to other taxing agencies requesting they not roll their millages forward in light of the huge increase resulting from the current 2024 quadrennial reassessment.
