City Council Committee Identifies Millions of Dollars in Additional Revenue Opportunities Without Raising Taxes

NEW ORLEANS - Today, the New Orleans City Council released a report recommending a list of action items to generate additional dollars for City services without raising taxes. This report is based on months of work by the Ad Valorem and Dedicated Special Committee made up of all seven councilmembers in collaboration with the City's Chief Administrative Officer, the Cantrell Administration, stakeholders and public input.

Council President Helena Moreno Issues Statement on Hard Rock Tragedy Calling for Justice and Future Safeguards

"As President of the City Council, I believe it is the role of this legislative body to ensure and demand a proper investigation and seek the truth behind this tragedy. While we have been patient as the official investigation is still ongoing, ultimately, those responsible must be held to account - both for the victims and for the city as well so that we see to it that this never happens again. I also believe we must work to craft proper laws, guidelines and oversight measures to prevent future harm to our people and this city. That work is underway now and meetings continue with stakeholders and union members to develop safeguards."

Council to Delay January Regular Meetings by One Week Due to Ongoing Recovery from Cybersecurity Incident

Today, City Council President Helena Moreno announced that the Council will delay its regularly scheduled Jan. 9 and Jan. 23 meetings by one week each due to the ongoing recovery from the cyber attack in December. The new dates for January's regular Council meetings will be Thursday, Jan. 16, and Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020.

Update on Thursday's City Council Meeting

City Council President Helena Moreno has issued the following statement with updates on the scheduled meeting this week: 

"It is the Council's aim for the final regular City Council meeting of the year, scheduled for Thursday, December 19, to proceed as planned. 

Due to limited access to technology, the Council will only take up matters of extreme sensitivity. This second meeting of the month allows the Council to meet its City Charter legal obligation of two meetings per month. 

Public notice and the agenda will be forthcoming and in compliance with the open meetings law. "

City Council President Helena Moreno has issued the following statement with updates on the recent cyber attack at City Hall: 

" Friday's cyber attack against New Orleans has affected over 4,000 computers and devices, which include those of the City Council.
