District E Food Banks and Meal Distribution Sites Week of April 20 - April 24, 2020
NEW ORLEANS - Councilwoman Nguyen would like to make residents aware of the food pantries and meal distribution sites this week in District E. 
Reach out to your neighbors, especially the elderly, and offer to pick up food for them if possible. 
Many of these sites would not run without volunteers. If you have not been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 in at least two weeks and are not showing any symptoms, please consider volunteering to help feed District E residents in need. 
Lower Ninth Ward:

5200 Dauphine St, New Orleans, LA 70117
Monday, April 20 through Friday, April 24
Volunteers needed Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM


 

1. Food Pantry -  in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank. 
  • Food distributed are heart-healthy staple items (produce, dairy, protein, whole grains) and follows guidelines from American Heart Association. 
  • ID Required, option to register for food monthly. 
  • Pick up Tuesday - Friday 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM  (Walk-up service, not a drive-thru).
2. Daily Meals for Children - (Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner)  sourced by Healthy Schools Food Collaborative and Revolution Foods. 
  • Pickup on Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM 
  • Support for the Children's meals comes from NoKidHungry. Bring children's ID or report card to register.
3. Commodity Food Boxes for Seniors Aged 60 and Older - sourced by Catholic Charities.
  • Delivery to certain areas of the City, pick up at 5200 Dauphine St by appointment. 
  • Call 504-872-9214 to pick up an application to join the program.
These programs are provided in partnership with the Lower Ninth Ward Voters Coalition,  Lower Ninth Ward Neighborhood Association, A Community Voice, Lower Nine Senior Citizens Center, Villa at St Maurice, Reaping the Harvest Full Gospel Baptist Church,  Level Up Campaign, and City Council District E.

Tuesday, April 21 starting at 9:30 AM 
First come, first served. Drive-thru only. 
These programs are provided in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, lowernine.org, Common Ground Relief, the Holy Cross Neighborhood Association, and Lower Ninth Ward Neighborhood Association. 
New Philippians Missionary Baptist Church
5234 N. Claiborne Ave, New Orleans, LA 70117
Tuesday, April 21 and Friday, April 24  from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
2,000 meals in partnership with World Kitchen and Revolution Foods, and the Holy Cross Neighborhood Association. 
Individuals will receive 3 plates on Tuesday, and 4 on Friday.
Volunteers needed Tuesday and Friday 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM 
New Orleans East: 
Giving Hope Food Pantry

Tuesday, April 21 - Friday, April 24 drive-thru from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Drive-Thru Food Bank in partnership with Second Harvest 
Capping each day at 300 families
Volunteers needed Tuesday and Friday 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM 
Giving Hope has been serving the New Orleans community since 2013 and provides both groceries and hot meals to senior citizens and families in our community. It's a policy of Giving Hope Food Pantry that households are served once a month. If you choose to violate the policy, you may be asked to come back at a later time. Thank you for your cooperation. 
Gateway Gourmets Meal Distribution & Second Harvest Food Distribution
Household of Faith, 9300 I-10 Service Rd, New Orleans, LA 70127
Friday, April 24 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
6,000 meals, each individual will receive up to 7 meals
Second Harvest will also provide food items to the first 200 families who need it at this event. 
This is the fourth week of distribution. This is sponsored by Gateway Gourmet, and we would like to thank Household of Faith for hosting the distribution site this week. 
Meal Delivery will also be provided to the following Senior Living Facilities in District E: 
  • Village de Jardin (New Orleans East)
  • Delille Inn (New Orleans East)
  • Peace Lake Towers (New Orleans East)
  • Cornerstone Homes (New Orleans East)
  • Villa St. Maurice (Lower Ninth Ward)
This program is sponsored by World Kitchen, Revolution Foods, HandsOn New Orleans, and the meals are delivered by Orleans Parish School Board bus drivers.
