NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans City Council is accepting applications for a Chief of Staff position within the Council Utilities Regulatory Office (CURO). The job posting requires a highly responsible individual with utility and telecommunications regulatory experience to manage and administer the operations and affairs of the CURO, build the necessary staff, and recommend ways to increase the office’s capacity for cost savings and advancement of progressive policies.
The CURO Chief of Staff will be the staff manager for the Council on all policy and franchise authority matters related to its regulatory responsibilities. They will also provide direction and management of in-house staff, as well as the legal and technical consultants retained by the Council. In addition, the CURO Chief of Staff acts as the liaison between the Council and other regulatory agencies, as well as elected officials.
Qualified candidates must be residents of Orleans Parish; possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s of Science degree; and have five years of progressive experience in at least four of the following areas:
- Interpreting/clarifying federal, state and municipal laws and policies.
- Supervising and administering contracts
- Interacting with governmental agencies, businesses, or community or private organizations to resolve problems
- Working on discrete issues within the electric, natural gas, or telecommunication industries
- Drafting utility or telecommunication franchise and permits, or legislation in furtherance of the public interest
- Work pertaining to the regulation of vertically-integrated utilities
- Knowledge of operating procedures, practices and regulations applicable to administrative agency practices
