Public Works, Sanitation and Environment Committee, Joseph I. Giarrusso
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans residents now have a single place to go for reports presented to and information prepared by the New Orleans City Council regarding the Sewerage and Water Board (S&WB).
These include:
- Reports the utility is required by state statute to provide to the council on a quarterly basis
- Summaries of S&WB board meetings prepared by the Council Utilities Regulatory Office (CURO) after each monthly meeting
The S&WB is required by state statute (RS 33:4091) to provide reports to the City Council every quarter on their operations, including updates on performance metrics for employees and contractors, efficiency of IT systems, and coordination with the Department of Public Works, prevention of waste and fraud. As chair of the Public Works Committee, Councilmember Joe Giarrusso has held the S&WB to this requirement.
In December the City Council hired Shannon Oldfield, an engineer housed within CURO, to provide technical expertise to councilmembers. Among her responsibilities is to prepare an executive summary of each S&WB board meeting to the council and the public within a week of the meeting. These summaries will be posted on the Public Works Committee website monthly.
All reports, as well as additional helpful information, can be found under "Committee Resources" on the Public Works Committee page of the council's website: https://council.nola.gov/committees/public-works-sanitation-and-environment-committee/
