Council President and Vice President Set Hearings for February 13th and 21st to Invite Maximum Public Participation in Expanded NOPS Decision Process

NEW ORLEANS - Entergy New Orleans' (ENOs) application to build the New Orleans Power Station (NOPS) facility has occupied the Council's attention for nearly three years now. The decision was carefully considered by each member, who voted to approve the proposal last March. Unfortunately, some subsequent revelations have prompted further attention by the Council.

The Council is keenly aware that the NOPS decision is among the most important any Council has had to face. In fact, the Council is currently scheduled to consider several NOPS-related proposals at a meeting called for Wednesday, January 23rd. Accordingly, there is a consensus that members have not had sufficient time to consult with each other nor the Council's consultants about the suggested proposals. Additionally, it is the consensus of the Council that to provide for adequate public response, this should first be addressed at a meeting of the Utility, Cable, Telecommunications, and Technology Committee (UCTTC) followed by a regular Council meeting.

Therefore, the Council will postpone NOPS-related issues until the regularly scheduled UCTTC meeting on February 13, 2019, followed by the regularly scheduled full Council meeting on February 21, 2019.
