Councilwoman Nguyen Encourages Residents Engagement in Community Development and Criminal Justice Committee Meeting on Jan. 25

NEW ORLEANS - Councilwoman Nguyen encourages residents to participate in the joint Community Development and Criminal Justice Committee meeting of the New Orleans City Council. This will be a virtual meeting on Monday, January 25, 2021, starting at 10:00 AM.

 

Residents can engage with this meeting by submitting public comment via the form linked here, and watch the meeting on Cox Channel 6 or online at council.nola.gov/meetings to hear input and responses from invited guests. If residents are unable to view the committee meeting live, they are encouraged to watch the recorded video that will be available at council.nola.gov/meetings on January 26.

 

This meeting will include a discussion with criminal justice partners responsible for crime prevention to work together and address community concerns associated with criminal activity. Invited guests include NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson; Sheriff Marlin Gusman; Criminal Clerk Arthur Morrell; Juvenile Court Judge Candice Bate-Anderson; Criminal Court Judge Karen Herman; District Attorney Jason Williams; Chief Public Defender Derwyn Bunton; Commissioner Tenisha Stevens; Patrick Young of Cure Violence; and the Mayor’s Office of Youth and Families.

 

After the inter-agency discussion, there will be a presentation by Emily Wolfe, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Youth and Families, on the 2021 Juvenile Justice Programming Handbook and Pathways Program. 

 

Following the information and feedback shared at the meeting, Councilwoman Nguyen will host a listening session with constituents on Monday, February 1, 2021, from 5:00 – 6:30 PM to hear resident input regarding various agency responses on crime prevention.
