NEW ORLEANS - Councilmember Jared C. Brossett joined Rochelle Wilcox and Wilcox Academy staff, partnering agencies, and other community leaders today to commemorate 15 years of service and break ground on its new location in Central City.
To celebrate this impressive milestone, Wilcox Academy gave away dozens of backpacks full of school supplies to students for the upcoming school year and awarded a pair of $1,000 scholarships to two young men who attended the school when it first opened its doors in 2006.
Councilmember Brosset was proud to attend the event and give remarks commending the organization for 15 years of dedication and commitment to the children of New Orleans and the surrounding community. The work of Wilcox Academy in providing early childhood education to primarily low-income students and families has proven invaluable.
“I’m so honored to have been included in today’s celebration as Wilcox Academy has proven itself indispensable over the last 15 years. Early childhood education has long been a priority of mine, and I’m proud to have partnered with Wilcox Academy throughout my career," said Councilmember Brossett. "Several years ago, I helped ensure they could break ground on their District D location, and since then, I have worked to have City funding for early childhood education tripled from $750,000 in 2017 to $3,000,000 today. It's amazing to see the impact Wilcox Academy has had for local families, particularly those of lower incomes, in my district and across the city, and I’m incredibly excited to continue working with them to expand their work even further in the future.”
