New Orleans City Council to Hold Press Conference for National Gun Violence Awareness Day

NEW ORLEANS - City Council President Jason Williams and other New Orleans City Councilmembers will hold a press event on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. on the Wear Orange initiative calling attention to National Gun Violence Awareness Day (NGVAD). NGVAD 2018 will take place on Friday, June 1, followed by Wear Orange Weekend to show solidarity with cities and communities across the nation to end gun violence.

WHAT: Press Conference for NGVAD and Wear Orange Weekend

WHERE: Front steps of City Hall, 1300 Perdido St., New Orleans, LA 70112

WHEN: Thursday, May 31, from 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

WHY: On average 96 people are shot each day in America and last year, 585 people were shot in New Orleans alone. As a result, the City Council, in solidarity with Moms Demand Action and cities and communities across the nation are planning orange-wearing events for NGVAD.
