Councilmember Kristin Palmer Responds to Release of City Planning Commission Short Term Rental Study

NEW ORLEANS - Today, the City Planning Commission (CPC) released its Short Term Rental (STR) report. In May, the Council approved a motion directing the CPC to study the impact of STRs under the City's existing regulations and utilize policies and practices from other cities to determine which new or current laws are appropriate.

"Throughout this process, I continued to stress the importance of public input to determine future laws and regulations for the City," said District "C" Councilmember Kristin Palmer. "For more than three months, the CPC received written comments from the public and held a public hearing to gather additional feedback and concerns from our citizens. I look forward to reviewing the commission's comprehensive report, considering their recommendations, and working with all of the Councilmembers to make the necessary changes to improve the City's STR program."

CPC staff will present the STR study report during the commission's meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and the CPC will submit the report and its recommendations to the City Council by Friday, Oct. 5, 2018. Councilmember Palmer encourages New Orleans residents to review the full CPC report as there will be future opportunities for public input before changes are made to the STR program.
